  1. Oct – Dec 2025

Knowledge transfers across Portal, bbSlate, BBConnect, BBSupport and BBEnroll. First features and fixes.

  2. Dec 2025 – Mar 2026

Teacher Management APIs in bbSlate. Student-ID encryption and audit logging across the Portal. NuGet packaging with GitHub Actions. Database migration research with SSIS.

  3. Apr – Aug 2026

Daily production monitoring across about 8 services, with root-cause work on payments, race conditions, reconciliation and duplicate data. 180 Playwright tests. Background-job and message-broker research.

  4. Sep 2026 – now

Backend owner of the bbSlate In-Person module through its production release. Backend APIs for bbFamily's server-driven UI. Spec-driven, AI-assisted delivery.

  1. bbSlate In-Person module

    Backend owner

The in-centre side of bbSlate: test weeks, test logs and progress reports, and what teachers, centre staff and parents each see and can do.

    • ASP.NET Core 8
    • MediatR / CQRS
    • EF Core
    • SQL Server
    • xUnit
    • Took over the module's backend after its initial build and owned it through production release. Delivered 9 changes in about 3 weeks with a spec-driven, AI-assisted workflow (spec → approved design → implementation → verification → updated spec).
    • Designed a two-report model for test weeks from a one-line business requirement, covering 9 enforcement points and per-role forms and approval rules. The design decisions were mine; the product owner approved them. Delivered a stable backend overnight to hold a VP release deadline.
    • Found a release blocker: the module read a database column the Portal never writes, so test weeks were invisible and the test-report feature had never worked. Fixed detection across 6 read sites.
    • Fixed a security gap where parents stopped being prompted to replace their centre-issued password after first login.
    • Grew the automated suite from 1,395 to 1,652 tests, using mutation testing to catch tests that passed for the wrong reason. Full module regression passed 32 of 32 API test cases with no backend defects.
    • Trained QA on the module, walked mobile developers through the API contract, triaged defects across backend, frontend, mobile and data, and supported UAT, including on a weekend.
    • Wrote the module's API integration guide and behaviour documentation, which QA used as the basis of their regression test cases.
  2. bbFamily parent app

Backend APIs for a server-driven UI

    • Python
    • FastAPI
    • Server-driven UI
    • Built backend APIs for bbFamily, the Android and iOS app parents use to follow their child's progress. It's the parents' side of the In-Person module.
    • The app uses a server-driven UI: the API sends each screen as components, and each mobile platform renders them. I create the backend components the screens are built from.
  3. bbSlate core

    • ASP.NET Core
    • MediatR / CQRS
    • xUnit
    • Swagger
    • Playwright
    • Built Teacher Management APIs from scratch: 7 endpoints with CQRS/MediatR, handler and repository layers, xUnit tests and Swagger documentation.
    • Proved a race condition between two APIs (page submit and last-visited page) with a Playwright concurrency script, then fixed it. Fixed grader submission failures, a wrong HTTP 200 on expired tokens, and missing token-expiry logs.
    • Made book creation dates follow the class schedule. Traced a base-repository override that was resetting the value, and flagged the impact on old records.
  4. BBPortal

    • ASP.NET MVC 5
    • JavaScript / jQuery
    • SQL Server
    • Implemented student-ID encryption across 81 files (URLs, page output, navigation), with audit logging and an admin bulk encrypt/decrypt utility.
    • Root-caused a payment batch job that silently stopped after 10 of 42 students: a blocking call to the payment gateway with no timeout.
    • Built Mass Email to Leads with status filters. Moved Open House list filtering, sorting and paging into database queries. Fixed 10+ UI and logic defects.
    • Picked up a production defect during planned leave, found the root cause and handed the team a targeted fix.
  5. Production support and platform

    • Serilog
    • SSIS
    • TickerQ
    • GitHub Actions
    • NuGet
    • Monitored production logs daily across about 8 services: portal, slate, enrolment, payment reconciliation, support, email and drawing-merge services.
    • Traced nightly reconciliation failures to stale, two-year-old transactions.
    • Fixed cancellation-exception handling in shared libraries and the global exception handler, so cancelled requests stopped being logged as errors across services.
    • Fixed duplicate pages in BBConnect caused by an under-filtered join. Delivered fixes in BBSupport and BBEnroll.
    • Wrote 180 Playwright tests covering portal navigation and login, plus API tests for the bbSlate auth module.
    • Benchmarked an SSIS migration of about 50,000 rows: a staging table with a set-based insert halved runtime against row-by-row (about 2 minutes to 1).
    • Built a TickerQ proof of concept comparing Hangfire, Quartz.NET and TickerQ. Designed a message-broker orchestration approach (Wolverine, Azure Service Bus) with a cost comparison.
    • Set up environment-based NuGet publishing (dev, prod and two test environments) with GitHub Actions and MSBuild.
